Check the date and lodge in Service Connect

At Macquarie, the Special Consideration time limit runs from the assessment task due date, examination date or test date. You can lodge before that date, or no later than five working days after it. The clock uses working days. An application that is not submitted in the manner and timeframe required may be refused.

Start by reading your own letter and checking the assessment date it refers to. Then prepare the application for the Service Connect portal. The application must be lodged online through that portal. It must include documentary Evidence at the time you submit. Keep copies of what you submit and of any confirmation you receive.

  1. Find the assessment task due date, examination date or test date.
  2. Check whether you are before that date or within the five working days after it.
  3. Open the Service Connect portal and complete the Special Consideration application.
  4. Attach documentary Evidence at the time of submission.
  5. Keep copies of the application and evidence.

The five working days are not calendar days. The date that starts the clock is the due date, examination date or test date for the affected task. If you lodge before the date, you do not need to wait for the task date to pass. If you are outside the time limit, the rule says the application may be refused.

Put the evidence in with the application

The application must include documentary Evidence when you submit. The Special Consideration Supporting Evidence Schedule sets out the evidence requirements. Read that schedule before you submit so you know what fits your situation. Use evidence that is true and relates to the circumstances you describe. Do not invent a reason, exaggerate, backdate a document or get a certificate for an illness you did not have. If you are unsure what evidence to use, talk to Student Advocacy, the free help listed under Free help.

If you have already submitted the assessment or sat the examination or timed assessment without reporting any issues during the assessment process, a second opportunity is considered only under exceptional circumstances. That condition is about reporting issues during the assessment process. Keep copies of the application, evidence and correspondence.

What Macquarie may decide

Outcomes may include no action, an alternative assessment, a supplementary examination, an extension of the assessment deadline, a second opportunity, or a recommendation to apply to Withdraw without Penalty. Other than in exceptional circumstances, only one opportunity for a supplementary examination is provided. If an assessment deadline is extended, the length of the extension will normally be equivalent to the duration of the circumstances affecting you.

An outcome may be no action. The list of outcomes does not promise that any particular outcome will be given. Read the outcome carefully and keep a copy. If you do not understand the outcome, ask Student Advocacy about the process.

If the application is refused or you are late

An application that is not submitted in the manner and timeframe required may be refused. An adverse outcome of a Special Consideration application may be appealed in accordance with the Appeals Policy and the Assessment Procedure. The pages we read do not state the appeal time limit, so confirm it in the Appeals Policy and the Assessment Procedure or with Student Advocacy.
